Due to unforeseen circumstances our host Fan-Sites.org is shutting down business. We’ve learned the news Saturday morning, and found out that all of their websites will be unavailable to the public as of next Monday (10th August) – yes, that was a two days notice! Fortunately webmasters will still have access to their data until September so they can transfer elsewhere.
There are thousands of websites in the same situation as us. That means a lot of people moving at the same time, to the same new companies (there are about two or three to choose from). Everyone is swamped and servers are running slow so it might take a couple of days to get Summer-Glau.net back on its feet. In the mean time, please check our Twitter account and Facebook page for updates. We’re hopeful that everything will be back online within a week or so.
For those of you who have been there since the beginning, you’ll remember that this has happened to us once before, in 2008. It was a hard couple of days, but we made it through with most of our data intact. It also allowed us for some upgrades and shiny new programs to try.
You can’t stop the signal! Summer-Glau-net will be back!
However when it does, I will no longer be part of the journey as I’m taking this opportunity to resign and transfer all of my access codes to Norman. This is not a rash decision, but something I’d been on the verge of doing for about a year now.
I created Summer-Glau.net in December 2005 and it has been ten wonderful years, and the most amazing learning experience. This website was simple HTML page at first and it evolved into this great community, which now runs smoothly three MYSQL databases and is coded in PHP (those of you who have, like me, started by coding HTML from scratch in Wordpad, will know what a leap that is). I’ve been lucky to meet some of you at conventions, others through the forum and that led to some great friendships, but everything must come to an end. And this it.
My life isn’t the same as it was ten years ago, and I can no-longer find enough free-time to work on this website (nights spent on my computer were cute when I was sixteen, but now my boss doesn’t really like it when I show up at work looking like a zombie; go figure). Norman has been helping me since the end of 2009 and he’s taken more and more responsibilities over the years, to the point where I’m certain to be leaving my website in the most capable of hands.
This will be my last post here and I would like to thank you all for taking this journey with me; it’s been the best of rides. If you want to keep in touch with me, you can find me on twitter, or on my website.
Godspeed to you all,
