The first day of the San Diego Comic Con started with the amazing Firefly anniversary panel and The first images of Summer and the (almost complete) cast are up. We hope to find a couple more images and some impressions from the panel and will update this post constantly. So don’t forget to come back later.
It’s been 10 years since Firefly started. How was it for you to see the crew back together? OK, enough words, here are some absolutely stunning images of Summer.
Firefly changed the ‘verse forever — and now, the ten-year reunion just happened at San Diego Comic Con. Joss Whedon looked at his asssembled castmembers and said, “These are the best meat puppets I’ve ever controlled.” High praise indeed.
So now that Joss Whedon has directed one of the most successful films of all time, what’s next for Firefly? Whedon quipped that he’d rather do a radio show than an animated series — and hilariously, Nathan Fillion acted out performing in a Firefly radio program. But mostly, Whedon said there’ll be a lot more comics ahead — the Shepherd Book origins story A Shepherd’s Tale is one of the most successful Dark Horse Comics titles of all time, and Whedon and his brother Zak have discussed some “crazy cool shit.”
Also, Whedon said that if he’d known he’d only get one season of Firefly, he would have delved deeper into the Blue Sun conspiracy. And if he’d played out the events of Serenity on television, he might not have killed off as many characters.
And here are a few more. Follow the links to the rest.[Click here] and [here].
It’s so… Summer is so crazy. The amount of vulnerability and strength she can convey is beyond magnetic. I look at her and think I will come with her if I want to live.”
The science channel who is hosting the Firefly anniversary panel at this years San Diego Comic Con, will shoot a 1 hour reunion special at the convention.
The special will have the title “Browncoats Unite” and will include footage from the panel and a depth behind-the-scenes roundtable interview that will dive deeper into burning fan questions about the beloved series. The panel and the roundtable will be moderated by EW’s Jeff Jensen.
The special will air along with an all-day Firefly marathon on Sunday, November 11 on the Science Channel. There are also some making of videos and specials on the Science Channel website.
Firefly is a landmark work of science fiction and a favorite with our viewers,” said Debbie Myers, general manager and executive vp of Science. “Ever since it premiered on Science, fans have asked us to do something special to mark its 10-year anniversary. With this signature celebration, punctuated by Browncoats Unite, we will connect the minds behind this classic franchise with its legions of passionate fans.
The panel itself will be on Friday, July 13 at 12:30 p.m. in Ballroom 20.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Universal, they’re releasing a special edition of Serenity, an exclusive steelbook edition (Blu-Ray).

Can’t stop the signal…
Beloved television cult director Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel) makes a spectacular first foray onto the big screen with Serenity, the cinematic adaptation of his wildly popular but short-lived sci-fi series, Firefly. A mix of space western, comedy, and drama, Serenity follows captain Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and his ragtag crew as they trade their way around the edges of civilized society. Of particular interest are two passengers they take on, Simon and River Tam (Sean Maher and Summer Glau), a brother and his telepathic sister on the run from the corrupt governing Alliance. As notorious former members of the anti-Alliance opposition, Mal and his crew make it difficult for Simon and River to stay hidden. Everything goes completely awry when a government assassin is sent to retrieve River. As Mal is forced to choose between his close-knit crew and the brother and sister newcomers, it becomes apparent that River harbors both a dangerous secret and astounding fighting powers, and Mal decides that discovering the truth about what she knows might just be worth his time.
Many of the film’s action sequences revolve around Summer Glau’s martial arts skills in her portrayal of River. Glau prepared for her role with Hong Kong stuntwoman Ming Lu, as well as stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski and Hiro Koda, and as a result performed nearly all the stuntwork herself. In addition to the stellar stunts, realistic graphics, and an often haunting score, the film’s actors display a rare chemistry that brings viewers both into their lives and into a possible version of humanity’s future.
