Hi. :)

This thread is dedicated to languages, words and expressions.

We all come from different countries and sometimes we wonder about the meaning or the use of words.

If you've got questions to ask, come here.

This thread is not limited to *foreign languages* -> English.

If you need to know things in french, german, spanish, italian and other languages (sorry if I do not give a full list...), come here.

I've seen sometimes questions about translations in other threads, maybe we can focus those questions here. ;)

Yes, this would be helpful.
I've never seen a more versatile forum than this. It's so amazing, couldn't say how much I've learned here. And I met so many nice people.

Sorry for off topic.

Ausgezeichnet!

On the subject of the es tset (ß)...I had read that groups within Germany were talking about getting rid of 'ß' in favor of 'ss'. Did this go forward? Is the population going to care what they say and use it anyway? Personally, it's my favorite letter in the German alphabet. :)

I also read that it would cause confusion with words that have 'ß' joined with 'ss' effectively making the word have 'ssss'. What word is this?

I don't know if it is official gone but we still use it, no matter what . :)
I have never seen words with 4 's' but it looks terrible.

A few year ago we get the "new german spelling rules" where words with 3 'f' became possible, like the german word for shipping "Schifffahrt". Bevor this new rule if hat only 2 'f' letters.

BTW. Its interesting that the german word "Fußball" which stands for soccer sounds like the word foosball which is the english word for"Tisch-Fußball".

That's because Fußball is the origin of foosball. It's a transliteration to make it easier for a non-German to pronounce.
