On the subject of the es tset (ß)...I had read that groups within Germany were talking about getting rid of 'ß' in favor of 'ss'. Did this go forward? Is the population going to care what they say and use it anyway? Personally, it's my favorite letter in the German alphabet.

I also read that it would cause confusion with words that have 'ß' joined with 'ss' effectively making the word have 'ssss'. What word is this?

I don't know if it is official gone but we still use it, no matter what .
I have never seen words with 4 's' but it looks terrible.

A few year ago we get the "new german spelling rules" where words with 3 'f' became possible, like the german word for shipping "Schifffahrt". Bevor this new rule if hat only 2 'f' letters.

BTW. Its interesting that the german word "Fußball" which stands for soccer sounds like the word foosball which is the english word for"Tisch-Fußball".

That's because Fußball is the origin of foosball. It's a transliteration to make it easier for a non-German to pronounce.
