I'm not sure but I think we did something similar 2 years ago ?. Of course that doesn't mean that we can't combine all those ideas and make something unique and personal for her.

Last year you gave her a cookbook and the year before that.....I don't know, I wasn't registered then.

I like the gardening idea. But do we know if Summer is into flower or vegetable gardens, or both?

If she's into flowers, then we could each contribute a packet of seeds for flowers native to our various states or countries. Norman or Cristelle could create a scrapbook like affair with each page holding a seed packet, trivia about the state or country from which its from, information about the native flowers, plus a brief message and greeting from the fan who contributed.

To minimize the work for Norman, those who send in the seed packets could also include the information about the flowers, state or country, along with their birthday greeting.

Thats a nice idea. Do you know if it is allowed to import seeds from flowers that usually not grow in the US ?

Good question. Nurseries in USA sell non-native plants from around the world. So at some point seeds or plants would have been allowed import from which the stock was grown. I would think a garden shop or nursery would know. WE are talking about seed packets, so maybe a question with your local post office about shipping flower seeds internationally, by air mail, etc., might be best.

If this is an idea you want to go with, maybe someone in the US could assemble the gift here to minimize the accumulated postage. Then you could create the pages with the information and send them to the person in the USA. He or she could then stick the correct seed packet on the right page and mail the 'book' to Summer's agent after getting approval from you for the content. The layout of each page should vary somewhat so the seed packets aren't in the same place and to accommodate slight variations in the size of packets. A general grid like the following could be used.

There would be 4 items on page:
1. Seed Packet
2. Picture of Flower against outline of state or country with trivia about the flower
3. Information about state or country and if the flower has historical significance
4. Birthday Greeting from sender, with maybe a few words about what Summer means to them, what role they first saw her in, something like that, but all kept brief.

Each of those 4 items would be arranged in each of those 4 squares so seed packets on facing pages would always land in an empty square on the opposing page. Depending on the binder, seed packets on interior squares might be difficult unless it's over sized or spiral bound to allow some play as in most scrap books.
