As far as I know, no. But to find the right present is a long process. So if you have an idea just write it here and we can discuss it. It doesn't have to be about gardening.

I think that its not easy to achieve this with all the editing and so. But its an idea. :)

Let's see what is coming in. I hope that we get a couple more ideas. Still a lot of time, but its always good to start early. :)

The really neat thing about a book-based project is that it is something that can be put in her hands with no other technical stuff needed such as power supplies, wifi connections, software updates or the like. What about a collection of brief articles, a few paragraphs each, in which people write what they like about Summer? She has said before that she avoids going online and relies upon her mother to send her good articles.

One of the things I always look for in a book is its structure. A cookbook has a bulletproof structure. A gardening guide that included a schedule could be laid out on a timeline and it could have pages inserted that included brief articles as described above. Of course, action figures would take it over the top but I won't go there... ;)

For editorial control, Norman and Cristelle should be the final decision makers of what goes into the book. I don't want to burden the two of you but I think the same principles and practices that govern this site should be applicable to the birthday project.

Only thing I have at the moment, donation to a supported cause.

I think she'd really appreciate something like that. Though not everyone may be able to donate.

Good idea - she spoke about some charities that she was actively part of, including something called Dizzy Feet. She mentioned a couple of charities I believe during her interview at the Calgary Comic Con earlier this year. I would be glad to contribute. Regardless of whether or not others can contribute (times are tough), it would be a gift from all of us.

If someone wants to donate to a charity thats a great thing, but I don't think that this is a good thing for a birthday present. Everyone should have the chance to contribute and it should be something personal.

That doesn't mean that I don't like the idea of donating money for a good cause. I just think thats not the right thing for her birthday.

I also don't want to start something that could maybe affect her career. Of course I know that donating for charity is a good thing, but you never know how other people will react if things like that go public and I guess we all don't want to put her in a difficult situation.

What about contributions to the Society for the Preservation of the North American Action Figure population? Every year, countless thousands of action figures are released into the wild, set on fire, forced to participate in unauthorized, and fruitless, attempts at low orbit space flights, fatal blender encounters, swimming lessons, and other such tragedies. :P
