Yes, many TR fans would be happy to see Summer as Lara. I launched a thread on a big TR forum I'm member since 2007 and the overall feedback is rather positive.

People who are Summer fan applause.
People who diddn't know her were impressed by her TSCC promotional photoshoot.
Some say she's a little too psychotic to play Lara, relying on her performance as River Tam. It was funny to me, it still shows how talented Summer is. In real life, she's sweetness and kindness incarnate.
She was full of praise for her physical abilities from almost everybody.

Cons:

She was deemed a little too delicate a former ballet dancer to impersonate such a tough character. Here, in S-G.net, we all know she can.
She's beautiful, but she does not completely correspond at the idea the majority of fans are making themselves about how LC should look. Perso, I don't care, like I didn't with AJ in the first movie, she wasn't like my idea of LC then.

EDIT: Kyle, Devo, Summer is so talented, we could imagine her in so many roles!

Lara Croft was never a smart and intelligent character. Not in the movies and not really in the games. The problem is that a lot of people are ok with that and don't want to see a smart Lara Croft. I would love to see her as Lara but it should be more than just the usual action stuff. But I doubt that Hollywood is willing to write a smart Lara.

I like that she wants to challenge herself with new roles in new movies like KoB.
If I had to choose I would love to see her in non sci-fi roles. I love Crazy Heart with Jeff Bridges and Milk with Sean Penn. So these kind of character roles thats what I would love to see her in, because these are the most challenging and most powerful roles (in my opinion) and I have no doubt that she can do that and hope producers will notice that.

But of course, If there will be a new Tomb Raider with Summer I will watch it and I'm sure she will be great in it.

I agree with mostly all you said. The problem with the movie is that if it sticks too close to the game, the script and character depth is around zero and it won't be good, and if it doesn't stick, fans would say it's not relaying the game's spirit and it won't be good either. So the balance is very difficult to find. The new movie is dealing with young Lara, possibly the ordeals she had to endure. So maybe some hope for something deeper, yet close to the spirit.
I'm longing for a non-scifi role for Summer too. Deadly Honeymoon was a good start, but it requires something more ambitious to correctly exploit Summer's abilities. I'm optimistic that with her growing reputation, more producers will take a close look to her.
I'd love too see Summer as LC too, but it has to be a great script. I prefer that she puts the role down than taking part in a bad movie.

I definately agree with this. I'd love to see Summer stretching her acting with interesting and diverse roles in all different genres. I have no problem with Summer continuing to do 'genre' or sci-fi though .. to me the particular genre something is in doesn't mean as much as the quality of the writing and direction, and strength of the characterisations. If she did sci-fi of the caliber of '2001', 'Moon' or 'Blade Runner' i'd be all for it that's for sure.

I'd love to see her have a career where she can do fun popcorn blockbusters as well as smaller character driven films, but I'll be happy whatever her career has in store for her.

I'd Like to see Summer in the so called low budget movies that actually tell a story and not the big empty movies that rely more on special effects with very little plot . Also I'm fan of period dramas and romantic comedies and I think Summer would great in those types of movies . KZE

Yes, this is why I'd prefer that Summer refuses the role if the script is not good and does not make use of her talent, no matter how much I would like to see her interpret LC. Her carreer is more important.


If I can meet her in T3 in June next year, I'll probably ask her whether she wants to try.
