Hello everyone,

As i saw that we got about $400 in less than 2 hours for new pictures of Summer and she supports some charity organizations, i thought that with the help of the fans(not only here in the forums) we could raise a lot money for a good thing.

There are a lot of charity organisations out there and i don't know which one would be the "choosen". It could be the one of the organisations that Summer supported like the BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre in Vancouver or another.

I already informed Cristelle about the idea and when she has some time maybe she could say if she like the idea. Maybe we could could give her the money via paypal so that she could spent it for us. I think it would be a good sign that the fans can do much more than "just" admire Summer.

Its her site so i guess we wait what she thinks and if she would like to spend the money for us or what exactly the details will be.
Maybe she could post it on the main site if all the details are clear.

Let me know what you guys think about that and you could look for some organisations and post them here. We could also split the money for 2 or 3.

If you have ideas i will post them here in the first topic so that everyone can see what ideas you guys came up with.

PS. Cristelle has a lot to do so i gues that we try to burden her as little as possible.

List of people who would help:
    Malcolm Reynolds
    JeLi
    Cameron
    kirirur

Maybe i should write the whole forum members in here ;)

List of charity organisations.

Here is a good start to look for organisations. --> http://www.charitynavigator.org/

There is also a project Racine by Jonathan Woodward (I guess Firefly fans know him :))
-->http://www.browncoatevents.com/ (Thanks to Mesaga who shows me the project.)

Thats what the project is about:
Quote:
The project focuses on empowering young people to take responsibility for the economic, health, educational and environmental well-being of Haiti, through IAHV's Youth Leadership Training Programme.

If you want to support it you can of course donate some money there now.

I am in, too!
Very good idea that I had at the moment I read the post at the mainside, too!
We could do so much for charity.

We should found a kind of summer.glau.net-Foundation (maybe an other name). I mean an extra part of this homepage or an own site for this charity-thing with the possibility to donate per Paypal or Credit Card like on Cristelles site.

I think it would be good to support the projects what Summer supports, too.
We could collect money for a specified time and decide after this time to transfer this money to an organization we choose in a poll for donators.

Ok, there are a lot of organizations out there. I did some research, and here are some that I thought were pretty good. You can find out more about them from the links I've included to the Charity Navigator reports as well as the websites of each charity.

International:
Habitat for Humanity International [report]
Heart to Heart International [report]
International Relief Teams [report]
MedShare International [report]

Education:
Teach For America [report]
Kids In Need Foundation [report]

Animals:
Humane Society International [report]

Country-specific:
Hope for Haiti [report]
Asha for Education [report]
Lalmba [report]

------------------------------
For the above charities, at least 90% of their costs are from the programs they support.(exceptions - at least 80%: Habitat for Humanity International, Teach For America, Humane Society International)

Additionally, the pay of the head of each organization is less than 0.5% and in some cases are not paid at all. (exceptions - less than 1%: Medshare International, Hope for Haiti, 2.88% Humane Society International)
------------------------------

Supported by Summer Glau:
http://www.bcwomensfoundation.org/
SPCA LA [report]

This is just what I've found. Everyone is more than welcome to suggest your own. Also keep in mind this is still pending official approval from Cristelle.

Count me in. I'll surely donate some money for a good reason. ;)

An extra site or page is not the problem and would of course be good, but we have to wait like JeLi said.

I would prefer to choose the charity organisation at first, cause a lot of people want to know where they spent their money directly. But thats just my opinion.

I think it's a great idea. I'm already donating money on saving horses from slaughterhouses, so I won't be much of a help here, but maybe once in a while I could donate some money on some organization. :)

well once we can all decide on a charity to donate to then we can worry about the other stuff. We should just gather a list of all the charities people would like to donate to then have a vote.

Thats also your part. :)
Just look if you find a charity organisation that sounds good for you and write them here.
If we get the go, we would make a small site, maybe a subdirection of the main site where we would write about the org. we want to spent the money and people can donate via paypal.

We also could at first make a Top5 List here and write them on this site and people have one week to choose which org. they want to spent the money and than spread the word on facebook, myspace, etc.
