I just watched serenity and wow ... it was awesome ... well .. not as awesome as those best movies out there but the movie was pretty engaging and entertaining to watch.

since i was a Summer fan since TSCC ... now i understand why she was popular since Firefly ;]

i loved the movie , espiecially Summer's fighting scenes and her emotional scenes ... it was pretty scary-ish when she sees those dead bodies.

Now the big question...did you watch Firefly first? As much as I love Serenity, I definitely prefer the original tv series, and (most) browncoats I talk to feel the same way. If you watch the movie before the series then I imagine its a bit harder to understand some of the characters relationships and back stories (Serenity was supposedly meant to be the second season of firefly). You also mention River's emotional scenes...Serenity was really going for a blockbuster action genera and so compared to the series it didn't have a lot of the deep character driven sub plots imo...there are some truly moving scenes in Firefly between River and Simon that can still get me choked up to this day.

So yeah, in short, buy the firefly box set (if you haven't already), it's like 10 bucks on amazon and if you liked the movie then I guarantee you'll love the tv show

I know Serenity is a great movie and it was good to see that Summer get a main part this time. But you have to watch Firefly either. It is just one season but its a great one.

im was the same as the OP. i became a Summer fan with TSCC, so during the wait for season 2 i went and search for some other summer stuff. so i got serenity it was great. i have seen some clips of Firefly on this site. when i get a chance im gonna get the firefly dvd.

also just to let people know her movie Mammoth will be on Sci-fi tuesday night (sept 30)at 10:00 (thats central time for me here).

Yeah I was the same way. I started watching SCC and was like whose that girl, why that’s Summer Glau you idiot. Really... So I hit the interwebs and found out she was in this show called Firefly which I vaguely remember seeing bits of, and a Movie called Serenity. So I went out to Best Buy the next day and bought the box set along with the movie. I then powered though around 8 of the episodes (eyes were bloodshot to say the least) and was like woah this is really good. I then watched the Movie and was again like holy cow that was awesome! I rank Serenity in my top 5 movies of all time now.

I agree that the two have different feels. The show is a little more homely while the movie is grander in scope and scale. I must say that I like the movie a bit more because it has a greater focus on River and her plight as opposed to the show which only saw her as a supporting character. One question that I found myself asking while watching the shows was will this poor girl ever get better? She does improve a little over the course of the series, but its not till the movie that we see that yes she is getting better albeit slowly. (I still wish Universal would make a sequel, I'd love to see how River is doing a couple years on) The interactions between Simon and River in both are priceless however. The closet scene and the tunnel scene with her and Simon made me well up big time when I 1st saw them. There are more from the show by virtue of there being more hours to view, but I have a couple of favs. One is the very 1st time we meet her, I won't spoil it but she is so scared in those scenes so confused. Another was when she tells Simon she didn't think he was coming for her, and he calls her a big dummy. Ugh, and how bout the one where she regresses from playing with Kaylee to being sick and telling Simon in her cryptic way that she saw the sun and breathed the air and was working like a normal girl should, but hated it when the darkness and chaos came back. Asking Simon "What am I" and he replies with a hug "You are my beautiful Sister". Gawd!!! It tugs at the heart strings. There are more but I've gone on enough. If I keep it up I might make myself cry.

a friend at work lent me serenity after i wudnt stop going on about summer in T:SCC and i really really enjoyed it now im also on the lookout for firefly i really love the story and wanna see where it all started. but yea love serenity great cast and it has abit of everything.

At the end of Firefly we could see that the focus comes more to River but than Fox decided to kill the show.
