I really liked the Pilot episode and the subtitles after the commercial breaks as lead-ins to the next segment. It gave it a comic book feeling, almost as if the viewers were turning the page of a new chapter.

There was a nice balance of the seriousness, campy humor, action, and character development to move things along very quickly. The only downside is that it gave away what was about to happen. In the subtitle "The Cape vs Chess", it was pretty clear before the screen came back on that there would be a fight scene or at least some type of confrontation coming up. I didn't mind, though, because it was pretty evident that was what was going to happen.

I would have liked a reference to how much time Vince Faraday spent training with the Carnival of Crime members, but it wasn't necessary so it was easy to overlook.

I was surprised at how fast they developed Faraday into The Cape. I was thinking what happened in the Pilot might take two episodes. Again, it didn't bother me how fast things moved along.

It was, of course, wonderful to see Summer back in action. No offense, but she looked better than ever (and I didn't think it was possible for her to look even better than she has). I'm anxious to see her become more of a main character, but I liked what they did with her so far! Great ep... can't wait for more!

well..what can i say..i don't see this series past the first season...and while this is a SUmmer fan site and i am a fan...the one who stole the pilot episode was Keith David...though too be fair Orwell didn't get that much air time..
The main character looks weird and not strong material...and at times the action seemed rushed and didn't make sense...
If CHess is the main antagonist then he is a lousy one...a show of this type is made by it's hero and villain...and in this episode they were both weak...

I'll keep it short. The show didn't exceed my expectations, but it didn't let me down either.
The best thing about it was the emotions and the script was the not so impressive part.
But I'll keep on watching

The show has surprised me so far, it has some good action But I think they've gone too far story-wise in the first episode, the transformation into The Cape just went too fast, and I think they've put the material for half a season into this.
It will be interesting to see how the show will go from here

I agree. I'm wondering if they will add new powers/skills to Faraday's arsenal of tricks as the show goes along. I'm hoping they don't introduce a new villain every one or two episodes. If they let things develop a bit over time, it'll have more sustaining power. Lost was guilty of not moving along quickly enough, but this seems to be moving a bit too fast. Just a bit slower would be perfect.

I found the first two shows a bit of a mixed bag – first off without Summer I wouldn’t have made the effort to download the show and watch it (I assume it will make it to the UK eventually). Having seen it I would probably continue watching as it was ok, but of course with Summer as part of the cast it is a ‘must see’.

It doesn’t compare with Summer’s other main shows like Firefly and TSCC but its early days yet. One thing in its favour all the main characters appear to have a fairly mysterious back-story – so plenty of room for interesting character developments. Orwell may well give Summer plenty of scope to shine.

The fight that Orwell got in to was a bit disconcerting as I was expecting Cameron/River to show up and wipe the floor with everyone. (The Cape would soon be out of enemies to fight if Orwell could channel either of those two )

As expected Summer was excellent, (I was re-watching Firefly over Christmas and Summer's range of performances never fail to impress – even after so many viewings) I just hope the writers appreciate her scope as the Orwell character develops.

I have to agree with others that Keith David stole both shows. By far the weakest character was Chess – I have seen the actor give some good performances in other shows so I guess it’s down to the writing. I don’t expect we will get many “also… I can kill you with my brain” style lines in this show.

I thought the main character Faraday was good in the action scenes, but less sure in the flashback/family scenes.

From what I have seen so far I’m sure it’s a much better vehicle for Summer’s career than Good Morning Rabbit and I’m looking forward to the next episode.

In my opinion Vince became The Cape too fast. It should take much more time to become the cape and get all the skills. Maybe they should have used 2 episodes for the premiere.
