As Summer is playing the part of Orwell, does anyone think they used this name in relation to George Orwell (Eric Blair)? She seems to play the part of someone helpful and supportive and she knows/finds out things about the main character. It's almost like she's a positive "Big Brother", which is quite the opposite of the Big Brother in 1984.

Then again, maybe it's just a name or has some completely different relation.

It could be just a coincidence like you said, although the first paragraph describing George Orwell on Wikipedia seems a little close its spooky.

Speaking about her character's name, does anyone know if 'Orwell' is her first name or surname? If it's her surname I wonder what her first name will be.

 I second that! Although it would be funny now if they gave her a first name starting with 'G'. Imagine if they gave her the name 'Cameron' in honour of TTSCC. Since it's also a guy's name, maybe it helps make Orwell harder to track down by the crims :P

Orwell may very well be a pseudonym to protect herself in her blogging activities.

Good call. That would make a lot of sense.

Indeed. Must be the most likely, I think :)
