I'm sure everyone saw the post on the main page. Hopefully we can have a respectful discussion about this. I went to the store today, and the woman told me it'd be another week or two before the issue is on newsstands.

I thought it was a fantastic shoot. Actually, to be honest, I kind of went into shock at first. Very nicely done, and I particularly liked the end when she was on the beach in the black bathing suit. They got a couple close-ups, and her eyes looked stunning. The interview was fun. I was surprised to learn that Summer drinks. I didn't think she did. Funny that she's a whiskey drinker. I'm a beer man.

Also, I absolutely love that she's reading the classics. As an aspiring writer, that made me feel really good. Of course, now I want to know what she's reading. I also want to suggest a bunch of great ones she should read. Reading is definitely a passion of mine, so I love that she's not only reading more, but she's also reading the classics. Good for her! :D

I posted this in the comments, but I thought I'd also include it here for discussion:

"I thought I'd add something: I applaud Summer for doing this. We need to keep in mind that Summer's a 29-year-old woman, and not only that, but she's an incredibly sexy woman. I think Summer wants to feel like a woman. For almost her entire career she's played a 16-year-old girl. River Tam, Cameron, and the girls from Mammoth and The Initiation of Sarah were all girls.

Summer's mentioned recently that she feels like she's growing up and becoming a woman, and I think this is part of that. She wants to feel sexy, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I think this is why she loves Orwell so much. Orwell is an older woman who's strong and independent, and who's sophisitcated and sexy and fashionable, etc. Summer can't keep playing the same 16-year-old girls forever. Personally, I'm ecstatic to see a more adult Summer, a more sexy and playful Summer."

I was among the first to post something under the entry on the main page that wasn't completely positive, and it is somewhat puzzling why it seemed to start such an avalanche. If I had know it would I would've never posted a single word.

Doubly puzzling is the defense against accusations negative posters--whose numbers were quite few and, as far as I could determine, never venomous--did not make. I can only speak for myself, but my confusion had nothing to do with the pictures, a subject many defenders keep harping on. I personally think the pictures are nice and were done very tastefully. Personally I am beyond needing to see an actress in a bikini; but sex sells, and Summer sells it with a level of taste and class. No problem.

My only truly "what?" moment was when Summer made mention of sleeping naked. It just seemed sort of odd. People chimed in to state and restate that if she slept naked it was her business; my follow-up post was made to completely agree with them, and to go further to say that if it is a private matter then it is a curious thing that she made that fact public knowledge. My initial post made it clear--or so I thought--that I was in no way trying to incite a riot or disparage Summer. And I wasn't. She seems to be a sweet person. I met her last September and she was extremely classy and really nice.

A lot of posters keep talking about "maturity," as if Summer has just turned 18 when in fact she is pushing 30--she had been grown for a long time. At bottom I'd imagine her reason for doing the Esquire spread was money, and I don't blame her--she has bills to pay like everyone else. But she has chosen to be a public figure, and with that is going to come a degree of criticism. Frankly, the concerns and criticisms on the front page were mild. Maybe her comments were intentionally quoted out of context by Esquire in the blurb-like portion in order to sell magazines. I guess we'll know soon. Regardless, people need to realize no one is always going to agree when these sort of topics arise. My wife is beautiful, but I'd be embarrased if she told the world she slept in the buff. The same applies for my daughter, who IS on the cusp of 18.

Again, I personally meant no harm to Summer or the site. This is a great site and Summer is a classy person. But what defines "maturity" for one person does not necessarily define it for the next. Being grown means you can sleep in the nude, but it also means it's probably best to keep that sort of information in the bedroom.

I'd say that's a matter of opinion. I didn't see anything wrong with it. It reminded me of an episode of Cribs I saw with Canadian comedian Russell Peters. While showing off his bedroom, he pulled out a drawer to reveal his porn collection, and he made a joke about how MTV would have to pixelate the hell out of it. Was that immature? I didn't think so. I actually laughed. Of course, I'm more liberal-minded, so this sort of stuff doesn't bother me.

It's Summer's life, and if she wants to divulge this sort of information, then I'll respect her decision. I won't judge her because she made her sleeping habits public knowledge.

I thought the whole interview was a hoot. It was so refreshing to see a fun and playful Summer. Especially after all The Cape promotion. Hearing the same questions and the same answers (I think NBC overdid it with the interviews). It was nice to see a different side to her, and to learn a little more about who she really is.

First I would just say how amazing Summer looks in the photo's. Reading some of the comments you would think Summer was the first woman ever to drink and sleep in the nude. I would only add I'm a 21 year old woman who also drinks and sleeps in the nude so I don't know what the problem is. KZE

I don’t really see any problem with what she said. It could be that by being fairly candid she is hoping to change her image of always playing characters in their late teens/early twenties.

On a slightly different topic:
As a big fan of Maker’s Mark myself I have to complement Summer on her taste in drinks – seems like she excels at every thing. I just whish she had found a more successful show than The Cape.

People really should stop reading to much into these pictures and just enjoy them. :)

The pictures are just amazing and I'm glad about all what she said.
I don't see any problem, it stresses the fact she's more like a normal girl, ie. the way we love her.

Yep, I loved that interview. It was refreshing that she wasn't asked the more or less same questions like so often in interviews. We all like her because Summer is who she is, and that interview confirmed this once more to me.

So, since Summer stated that she can drink like a fish, where can I enroll for the drinking contest between Summer and her fans at Starfury this year?
